For my BFA senior thesis project, I chose to investigate the ways that artists' identity formations challenge hegemonic distinctions between art and design. Drawing on the absurdist art collective Hairy Who as a case study, my thesis explores the ways that late 20th and 21st century artists created and exploited the consumer arts culture from which they ultimately profited.
The design for my thesis publication expands upon my writing, drawing from the evolution of the artist into a cultural subject whose work and brand became synonymous, a convolution that positions design as the bridge between art and identity.
